LTK-RCB-5U60A resonant capacitor bank: From 3D design to manufactured hardware.

LTK-RCB-5U60A is a high-current resonant capacitor bank designed for induction heating, resonant converters, and high-frequency power electronics applications. It combines five parallel polypropylene film capacitors to provide a nominal capacitance of 5.0 µF and an RMS current capability of 60 Arms at 100 kHz.

This Design to Reality view presents the transition from the 3D design stage to the manufactured hardware, showing how the capacitor arrangement, high-current PCB architecture, and terminal connections are carried into the final product.

Resonant Capacitor Bank Design and High-Current PCB Architecture

In high-frequency resonant circuits, capacitor banks must handle substantial circulating currents while minimizing parasitic resistance and inductance.

LTK-RCB-5U60A uses wide copper current paths and a distributed capacitor arrangement to support current sharing between its five parallel film capacitors. Each terminal provides three parallel connection points, rated for a maximum of 20 Arms per contact point.

This architecture allows the capacitor bank to support its rated 60 Arms current when the current is properly distributed across all three contacts of both terminals.

Modular Capacitor Bank Configuration

The module features a stackable mechanical design with four mounting points, allowing multiple boards to be assembled into compact capacitor bank configurations.

Identical banks can be connected in parallel to increase total capacitance and RMS current capability, or in series to increase permissible voltage while reducing equivalent capacitance.

This flexibility allows the capacitor bank configuration to be adapted to different resonant tank requirements without redesigning the individual PCB.
