Dual Rotary Encoder Module Structure

RENC-P2K20-B1 is a compact rotary encoder module designed for applications that require two independent manual input channels on the same board. The module includes two angular encoders and provides separate A, B and switch outputs for each encoder.

This structure makes the module suitable for microcontroller interface applications where parameter adjustment, menu navigation, manual control or user input functions are required.

Totem-Pole Output Interface

The module uses totem-pole output stages. This output structure provides low output impedance and current sourcing/sinking capability, making the signal lines more suitable for driving digital inputs in practical embedded systems.

Compared with weak pull-up based signal structures, totem-pole outputs can provide a stronger logic-level interface. This can be useful when the encoder signals need to be routed over longer cable connections or when the outputs are connected to inputs with relatively high capacitive loading.

Supply Voltage and Signal Levels

RENC-P2K20-B1 operates with a VCC supply range of 1.65 VDC to 5.5 VDC. Since the output high level follows the VCC voltage, the module can be adapted to different logic-level systems such as low-voltage microcontrollers or standard 5 V digital circuits.

At 3.3 V VCC, the output current capability is specified as ±24 mA. This allows the encoder outputs to provide a practical digital signal interface for many embedded control applications.

Encoder Outputs and Port Structure

Each encoder provides two quadrature signal outputs and one switch output. These signals can be connected to a microcontroller to detect rotation direction, step changes and push-button actions.

The port structure includes:

  • VCC supply input

  • GND reference connection

  • Encoder 1 A output

  • Encoder 1 B output

  • Encoder 1 switch output

  • Encoder 2 A output

  • Encoder 2 B output

  • Encoder 2 switch output

This arrangement allows both encoders to be used independently while keeping the connection structure simple and clear.

Compact PCB Form

The module is built on a compact 40 × 40 mm PCB structure. The encoder shaft length is suitable for panel-oriented use, and the board includes M3 mounting holes for mechanical installation.

This compact form makes the module practical for control panels, test equipment, embedded user interfaces and small electronic systems where two rotary inputs are needed in a limited area.

Typical Use Cases

RENC-P2K20-B1 can be used in systems where manual digital input is required through rotary controls.

Typical use cases include:

  • Microcontroller interface applications

  • Menu navigation controls

  • Parameter adjustment interfaces

  • Test and measurement devices

  • Industrial control panels

  • Embedded user input modules

  • Prototype and development setups

Conclusion

RENC-P2K20-B1 provides a compact dual rotary encoder module structure for microcontroller-based user interface applications. With two independent encoders, totem-pole outputs, a wide logic-level supply range and a 40 × 40 mm PCB form, it offers a practical input solution for embedded systems and control panel designs.
