PWM controlled dimmer triac SCR driver design

ZCD-28PT835A: PWM Controlled Dimmer for AC Power Control

The ZCD-28PT835A is being introduced as a PWM controlled dimmer and triac/SCR driver module for AC power control applications. It is designed to operate with an 85–285 VAC RMS input range and to control the firing behavior of the output stage through the duty cycle ratio of an isolated PWM signal.

This approach allows the control system to adjust the output behavior digitally, while the module handles zero-cross detection and triac/SCR triggering on the AC side.

Zero-Cross Detection and PWM-Based Triggering

The ZCD-28PT835A detects the points where the applied AC voltage crosses the zero-potential region. These zero-cross points are monitored and used as reference information for the triggering process.

According to the duty cycle ratio of the isolated PWM input signal, the module controls the triac driver output. This makes the device suitable for dimmer and AC switching applications where the firing angle needs to be adjusted through a digital control signal.

Noise Immunity and Stable Detection

In practical AC line conditions, noise, voltage fluctuations and short interruptions may affect signal detection and switching behavior. The ZCD-28PT835A is designed to maintain stable operation under these conditions.

Signal deformations with a duration of up to 1.25 ms do not affect the zero-cross detection output. This helps the module provide consistent detection behavior even when the input signal is not ideal.

Opto-Isolated Input and Output Structure

The module uses opto-isolation between the input and output sections. This structure helps separate the control side from the AC switching side and supports safer integration in systems where low-voltage control electronics operate together with mains-related circuits.

The isolated structure is an important part of the module design, especially in dimmer, AC switching and triac/SCR driver applications.

Conclusion

The ZCD-28PT835A provides a digitally controlled dimmer structure for triac and SCR-based AC power control. With 85–285 VAC RMS input support, zero-cross detection, PWM-based triggering and opto-isolated input/output sections, it offers a practical solution for systems that require controlled AC switching through a digital PWM signal.
