ZCD-285VAC-18V6A: Zero-Cross Detector Design

ZCD-285VAC-18V6A is a voltage zero-cross detector module designed to detect the points where an applied AC input signal crosses the zero-potential region. It supports an 85–285 VAC RMS input range and provides a ZCD output signal referenced to the selected output supply voltage.

This Design to Reality view presents the transition from the design stage to the manufactured hardware, showing how the zero-cross detection circuit, isolated structure and compact PCB layout are carried into the final module form.

AC Zero-Cross Detection

The module detects the moments when the applied AC voltage reaches the zero-crossing region. These points can be monitored and used as timing reference information in control systems, switching circuits or AC-related measurement applications.

The output supply range is 5–18 VDC. The amplitude of the ZCD signal follows the selected output supply voltage, allowing the module to be adapted to different logic-level requirements.

Output Signal Capability and Isolation

The ZCD output signal has a 6 A peak current capability. This allows the signal to drive multiple circuit inputs or high-capacitance input structures more effectively.

The module is designed with high immunity against practical AC line disturbances such as noise, voltage fluctuations and short interruptions in the input signal. Signal deformations with a duration of up to 1.25 ms do not affect the zero-cross detection output.

The input and output sections are isolated from each other using opto-isolators. This isolation structure helps separate the AC input side from the output signal side and supports safer integration in systems where mains-related signals and low-voltage control circuits operate together.

Key Features

  • 85–285 VAC RMS input range

  • 5–18 VDC output supply range

  • ZCD output amplitude matched to the output supply voltage

  • 6 A peak ZCD output current capability

  • Pulse or edge type output signal for zero-cross indication

  • High immunity against noise, voltage fluctuations and short input interruptions

  • Immunity against signal deformation up to 1.25 ms

  • Opto-isolated input and output sections

Conclusion

ZCD-285VAC-18V6A provides a compact zero-cross detector structure for AC signal monitoring and timing reference applications. With its wide AC input range, selectable output voltage level, high peak output capability and isolated input/output structure, it is suitable for systems where AC zero-cross information needs to be transferred safely and reliably to the control side.
