ZCD-28PT835A: Triac Controller Design

ZCD-28PT835A is a triac and reverse-parallel SCR driver module designed for AC power control applications. It supports an 85–285 VAC RMS input range and allows the firing behavior to be controlled through the duty cycle ratio of the PWM signal supplied to the device.

This Design to Reality view presents the transition from the design stage to the manufactured hardware, showing how the isolated AC control structure, PCB layout and driver interface are carried into the final module form.

PWM-Based AC Power Control

The module is intended for applications where AC power needs to be controlled through a digital signal. Instead of using a purely analog dimming or firing control method, ZCD-28PT835A allows the control system to adjust the firing behavior by changing the PWM duty cycle.

This structure makes the module suitable for digitally controlled dimmer systems, AC switching applications and triac/SCR driver circuits where isolated logic-level control is required.

Zero-Cross Detection and Isolation

ZCD-28PT835A detects the points where the applied AC input signal crosses the zero-potential region. These zero-cross points can be monitored and used as reference information by the control system.

The module is designed to provide stable zero-cross detection under practical AC line conditions. It has high immunity against noise, voltage fluctuations and short interruptions in the input signal. Signal deformations with a duration of up to 1.25 ms do not affect the zero-cross detection output.

The AC input, digital input/output section and firing outputs are galvanically isolated from each other. This isolation structure helps separate the control side from the AC power side and supports safer integration in mains-related switching applications.

Key Features

  • Triac and reverse-parallel SCR driver structure

  • 85–285 VAC RMS input range

  • PWM-based firing control

  • Zero-cross detection output

  • Adjustable ZCD amplitude: 5 V – 18 V

  • High immunity against noise, voltage fluctuations and short input interruptions

  • Immunity against signal deformation up to 1.25 ms

  • Galvanic isolation between AC input, digital input/output section and firing outputs

Conclusion

ZCD-28PT835A provides a compact triac controller structure for PWM-based AC power control. With zero-cross detection, isolated logic-level control and galvanically isolated firing outputs, it is suitable for applications where digital control and AC switching need to be integrated in a controlled and reliable way.
